International Quilt Challenge 2017

The 2017 Bunbury Patchwork and Quilting Group’s Challenge, once again highlighted the creative talents of local and overseas quilters in using a given piece of fabric to interpret a theme; this year’s theme being “20 Years Ago.”

The quilts were exhibited at Stirling Street Arts Centre during a weekend in March and we enjoyed 28 entries into the competition this year.
We had 18 entrants from Australia and a total of 10 entries from overseas countries:
Canada, France, Japan, Scotland, South Africa and USA.

Various sponsors supported the Challenge by providing a range of great prizes: the main sponsor being our own group the Bunbury Patchwork and Quilting Group alongside our valued continued sponsorship from Southlands Fabric & Sewing Centre of Willeton WA, Homecraft Textiles in St James WA, The President of our Group and the ever continued support we have received from Lloyd Curzon Textiles in Adelaide SA for their very generous supply of the Challenge Fabric each year.

First prize was won by Peg Pennell from Nebraska USA, for her quilt titled “Bunbury Welcomes the World.”

Second prize was won by Karen Berry from British Columbia Canada, for her quilt titled “Busselton Jetty.”

Third prize went to Deb Layt from Watsonia North Victoria, for her quilt titled “Field of Dreams.”

Highly Commended was awarded to Silke Steuxner from Secret Harbour Western Australia, for her quilt titled “Picture Postcard Memories.”

Viewer’s Choice was won by Carlene Williams from Australind Western Australia, for her quilt titled “Sweet Memories – Riding by the Bay.”

Photographs of all quilts may be viewed on the website www.stirlingstreetarts.com.au
